PINACATE SPURGE

SPURGE; PINACATE BIOSPHERE RESERVE

Spurge (perhaps cliff spurge: Family Euphorbiaceae) growing on the rim of Crater Elegante. This large straggly plant (over 1 metre tall) is common on the crater rim. The stems are flexible and bear clusters of small, succulent leaves on short side branches (second image below). Several of these plants (about 10%) had collapsed and died in April 2001 (third image below), perhaps by frost damage.
