POSTER PRESENTATIONS

On this page you will find links to six posters on Arthropod Biology. Ignore the fact that they are mostly hand-produced (you should aim to produce a poster electronically). You will learn much about designing posters by evaluating these examples, using the check list shown below.

You can also download a poster template - a Microsoft Powerpoint file that you should save onto a floppy disk or your hard drive. Save it as template.ppt then open it in Microsoft Powerpoint. CLICK HERE to download a Powerpoint file

Check list:

General Does the poster look clear? attractive? produced with care? reader-friendly? If you had 40 posters to look at, and limited time, is this a poster you would choose to read?
Information content [Even though you cannot read the text, you can probably gauge the information content.] Does the poster convey information in an assimilable form? Does it use a variety of ways to present information (diagrams, pictures, tables, graphs, etc.)?
Layout and sequence Is the layout clear? Is it logically organised? Can you see where to start and finish? Is the balance right? For example, is there too much text? too little text? are the important things given prominence? is the space used well?
Good points Identify 3 good points about the poster
Bad points Identify 3 bad points about the poster

For help in producing electronic posters, see Graphics & Multimedia Resource Centre. This is located on the first floor of the James Clark Maxwell Building (KB). It runs a series of short courses during term times. It is also a "drop-in" centre - one of the few places which has a notice "We are open. Come in" on the door.
