You should NOT wait until your third or fourth year. You should start to prepare early because you will need lots of skills regardless of the career you choose. For a flavour of what is expected, see Questions asked by major employers

• Prepare a well-designed CV (curriculum vitae) (HELP)
• Train in Interview technique (Careers Service)
• Recognise your strengths and weaknesses (Careers Service and EUSA skills training programme)
• Develop effective time management and personal organisation (HELP)
• Develop problem-solving skills (Try some example questions used by recruitment agencies)
• Keep a record of work experience (voluntary or paid) - employers value the "work ethos"
