TARBUSH

TARBUSH (Flourensia cernua)

Tarbush (Flourensia cernua; Composite family) is a small shrub usually 1-1.5 metres tall, characteristic of the Chihuahuan Desert. This shrub can be co-dominant with creosote bush over large areas of flat, calcareous sites. The photograph was taken in March, before the summer rains which promote the production of new leaves. The old leaves die after frosts but remain on the plant until the next growing season.
