CARDON - MATURE

CARDON (Pachycereus pringlei) MATURE PLANT

The giant cardon cactus dominates many of the deserts of Baja California and in the coastal region of Sonora. It is closely related to the saguaro (Carnegiea gigantea) of Arizona and Sonora, but is not frost-tolerant, so these two gaint cacti occupy distinct regions. This specimen is a mature plant, well over 100 years old, in an area of large granite boulders in the central desert region of the Baja California peninsula, Mexico.
