URBANISATION

URBANISATION

There is intensive pressure for urban development close to the major natural faetures of the deserts of southwestern USA. The properties in these regions can command high prices. Here we see part of a new urban development (a band of houses in the middle distance) immediately next to the boundary of the Saguaro National Monument (where the picture was taken) near Tucson, Arizona. The long-term effect of this is fragmentation of the desert habitat, with consequences for the mobility of animals (including pollinators).
